What to do immediately after a phone gets wet

The user’s first actions can affect the subsequent condition of the device. If the smartphone is still on, it should be switched off without unnecessary testing of its functions.

After liquid exposure it is recommended to: switch off the phone, not connect the charging cable, disconnect headphones and other accessories, remove the case and carefully wipe the liquid from the outer surface. The SIM tray can also be removed if this can be done easily and without additional pressure on the housing.

There is no need to press buttons unnecessarily, test the camera, sound or charging, or launch applications. The device should be brought in for diagnostics as soon as possible.

What phone cleaning after liquid damage includes

Before starting work, the technician assesses the external condition of the smartphone and clarifies the circumstances of the incident: what liquid got inside, when it happened, whether the phone worked after contact and whether it was connected to a charger.

After the initial inspection the device is disassembled to gain access to the internal components. The battery is disconnected, after which the technician inspects the motherboard, flex cables, contacts, connectors and other accessible assemblies.
